Sentimental Value Sweeps the 38th European Film Awards / Six Prizes in Berlin

The 38th European Film Awards were held on 17 January 2026 at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, before 1,000 international guests. For the first time in the history of the ceremony, the EFA moved to January / a strategic decision designed to align with the international awards season. The event was broadcast to 49 partners across 29 countries.

Norwegian director Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value (Affeksjonsverdi) / a Norway/France/Denmark/Germany/Sweden co-production / dominated the evening with six awards: European Film, Director, Actress (Renate Reinsve), Actor (Stellan Skarsgård), Screenwriter and Composer (Hania Rani). Oliver Laxe’s Sirāt won five technical prizes. Liv Ullmann received the Lifetime Achievement Award and Alice Rohrwacher the Achievement in World Cinema prize. The LUX Audience Award 2026 went to Eva Libertad’s DEAF (Sorda), presented at the European Parliament in Brussels.
